Visitors can embark on thrilling hikes through lush rainforests, snorkel in vibrant marine parks teeming with life, or relax on secluded beaches that boast powdery white sands. The rich cultural tapestry of Lombok is also a highlight, with traditional Sasak villages and vibrant markets providing a glimpse into the local way of life. A Glimpse of Daily Life in Lombok: Half‑Day Cultural Tour
This short half‑day tour (4 hours) is designed especially for cruise passengers with limited time on Lombok, or for guests who prefer a relaxed program while still enjoying authentic local experiences. In just a few hours, you’ll gain a vivid impression of the daily life of the island’s residents.
Our tour begins with a visit to a small brick‑making workshop, where villagers still produce bricks entirely by hand using traditional methods. This craft provides an essential source of income for many families, especially during times when other work is scarce. Here, you can observe up close how bricks for house construction are made with simple tools, skill, and a great deal of manual labor.
We then continue to the traditional market in Gerung, an ideal place to experience local life at its most vibrant. Farmers sell their freshly harvested produce directly from the surrounding fields, and you’ll find a wide variety of vegetables, fish, meat, spices, clothing, children’s toys, and other everyday goods. Essentially, it offers everything you would find in a modern supermarket, often at lower prices and in a much more authentic atmosphere.
To end the tour, we visit nearby villages (where you can often spot macaque monkeys wandering around) surrounded by beautifully terraced rice fields. These peaceful landscapes offer wonderful opportunities for memorable photos and a moment of relaxation in nature before returning to the ship.
This tour is the perfect blend of cultural insights, encounters with locals, and the charm of rural Lombok, ideal for a short yet unforgettable stay on the island.

The village of Sukarara is home to many intricate and beautifully woven cloths, which form an important part of Lombok’s identity. The town specializes in Songket, an intricately patterned woven fabric created by adding gold or silver thread through it. This thread stands out against the other colors, creating a shimmering effect. The motifs of the Songket are diverse; some will showcase a flower motif or chicken motif, each with a unique meaning. Woven items are created using cotton fabric, silver threads, nylon, and silk. The dyes are made from natural materials like betel vine lead, bark, turmeric, or tamarind. Weaving is by hand, and most locals spend their days creating. Anything from dresses, table covers, blankets, scarves, and cloth can be created. You will also have the opportunity to try weaving for yourself and learn about the complexities and processes. Most of the woven fabrics are made at home, with many gift stores selling them too.
At 3:15 PM, we will return to the port at Tanjung Mas in Lembar in western Lombok.
